Minister Freeland to attend emergency Lima Group meeting on Venezuela

The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will attend an emergency meeting of the Lima Group in Lima, Peru, on Friday, May 3, 2019, as the crisis in Venezuela escalates.

"Over the past few days, the Venezuelan people have once again shown their strength, courage and determination, calling for the end of the Maduro dictatorship and a return to democracy, despite the violent repression of the regime. Canada remains steadfast in our support of interim president Juan Guaidó and the National Assembly in their struggle for free and fair elections. Now is the time for Nicolás Maduro to step aside and allow for a peaceful end to this crisis."
