Minister Joly, UK's Cameron Discuss Foreign Affairs

Earlier today, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with David Cameron, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, during the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs held in Brussels, Belgium.

Minister Joly congratulated Secretary Cameron on his recent appointment to this position and expressed Canada's appreciation for the two countries' strong ongoing collaboration on the international stage.

During their meeting, the ministers discussed a broad range of priority issues. They discussed the two countries' support for Ukraine, with both military assistance to strengthen its position on the battlefield in the short-term and commitments to provide security assurances to Ukraine for the long-term.

They also discussed the violence and increasingly dire humanitarian situation in Israel and Gaza, and the importance of working with international partners to de-escalate the crisis and encourage a two-state solution to the conflict.

The ministers also reiterated the importance of working together to hold Iran accountable for the downing of Flight PS752.

Minister Joly and Secretary Cameron reaffirmed their shared commitment to continuing to work together to address global threats and to respond to international security challenges around the world.
