Minister's Statement on Federal Cybersecurity

Shared Services Canada

Joint statement by the Honourable Joël Lightbound, Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement and Minister responsible for Shared Services Canada; and the Honourable Shafqat Ali, President of the Treasury Board.

Today, following the tabling of the Auditor General of Canada's Audit of the Cyber Security of Federal Government Networks and Systems, our government reaffirms its unwavering commitment to protecting and strengthening the security and resilience of Canada's digital infrastructure.

Canadians expect their government to keep their personal information and the systems they rely on secure. In an increasingly complex and hostile digital environment, cyber security is not only a technical responsibility-it is a national priority and a key pillar of public trust in government institutions.

We welcome the Auditor General's recommendations, which provide valuable insight as we continue to strengthen the Government of Canada's cyber defences. These findings build on the significant progress our government has made to modernize and secure the digital systems that support essential programs and services for Canadians.

Through Shared Services Canada, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat and the Communications Security Establishment Canada, our government continues to take coordinated, proactive action to protect critical systems, detect vulnerabilities and stay ahead of emerging cyber threats. Every day, these efforts help prevent billions of malicious activities from targeting Government of Canada networks, ensuring the continued safety and reliability of our digital services.

We continue to invest in advanced technologies, enhanced monitoring and real-time threat detection to strengthen the federal government's ability to anticipate, defend against and respond to cyber incidents. The Auditor General's recommendations will further reinforce this ongoing work, helping us adapt to the evolving digital landscape and enhance collaboration across departments and agencies.

Our government remains vigilant and forward-looking, committed to protecting the digital systems that Canadians depend on and ensuring that government services remain secure, reliable and resilient in an increasingly interconnected and unpredictable world.
