Mitchell Shire Council has unveiled a brand-new budget simulator survey which will allow residents and ratepayers to let Council know if the budget has the right mix of funding allocations.
Last year, we asked for your budget ideas. As a result, Council spent more than ever on capital works with new and improved roads, missing links footpaths, parks and playgrounds.
The simulator will help inform Council for capital works projects for 2020 and beyond. The survey will continue Council's Your Budget Ideas conversation which saw more than 750 ideas pitched in 2018.
The allocation tool will focus on capital works programs which are funded by Council. Council looks after more than 100 critical service areas for residents, ratepayers and visitors and this is a crucial part of the budget.
Residents and ratepayers will be able to increase, maintain or decrease capital works projects under a number of themes.
These themes are:
- Township Amenity and our Natural Environment
- Footpaths, Walking and Cycling
- Roads and Road Safety
- Parklands, Playgrounds and Open Spaces
- Sports, Recreation and Aquatic Facilities
- Community Buildings and Facilities
Council is continuing the conversation about what types of projects, aspirations and needs are important to the community to inform the development of our capital works program in the 2020-2021 budget.
Council has recently commenced the early stages of planning for the 2020-2021 Budget and we are using these themes and ideas to help shape next year's budget and our long-term Capital Works Program.
Council also welcomes ideas for new projects and services at any time throughout the year. Community project ideas will be evaluated for alignment with the Council's established Plans and Strategies including the 4-year Capital Works Plan.
The draft 2020-2021 Budget is expected to be adopted for public comment in March 2020 before final adoption in June 2020.
