Mobile Library makes first visit to Elliot Springs

One of Townsville's fastest-growing suburbs will be receiving visits from Townsville Citylibraries' Mobile Library to help bring this much-loved community asset to more families.

The roving library services will now be making a fortnightly stop at Elliot Springs Community Hub on Elliot Springs Blvd, giving residents in the area the chance to borrow books and items from Citylibraries' Library of Things from 11am to 1pm every second Wednesday. The first visit to the site will be next Wednesday 17 January.

The new stop will replace the former Alligator Creek stop, following feedback from library members.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the change would make the Mobile Library more accessible to residents.

"We know that quite a few of our Mobile Library users who visited the Alligator Creek stop were driving from Elliot Springs. With the suburb continuing to grow, we've made the decision to bring our Mobile Library to the Elliot Springs Community Hub every second Wednesday," Cr Greaney said.

"Hopefully this change will make the Mobile Library more accessible to our residents, and particularly for families who are following the First 5 Forever program with their little ones.

"Council's Mobile Library currently services a number of locations across Townsville, including Magnetic Island, Rollingstone, Saunders Beach, Deeragun, Bluewater and Woodstock.

"This is just one of the ways Council is working to increase access to Council's library services and build Townsville into a city that connects you to what you need at the time you choose."
