As the University of the Indo-Pacific, Monash is deepening Australia's engagement with ASEAN through its largest-ever investment in world-class education and research in Malaysia.
Monash University Malaysia will partner with TRX City to deliver its 2.8 billion ringgit ($1 billion) local investment into a future Monash campus in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Monash University's Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Sharon Pickering will today announce the future Monash Malaysia Campus in Kuala Lumpur, alongside Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese and Minister of Higher Education Malaysia, Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
From 2032, the future Monash Malaysia Campus will support the growth and student demand for a Monash education, with capacity for 22,500 students and 1,700 staff from beyond 2040.
The University is working with the Australian and Malaysian Governments to bring this future campus to life, and expand our international research and education programs to the communities we serve.
"Showcasing Australia's best in class higher education sector overseas is a huge opportunity for Australian jobs and investment," Mr Albanese said.
"But it's also an important opportunity to extend deep connections in our region and right around the world.
"That's exactly what we're seeing with this investment from Monash for a new campus in Malaysia: students learning from one of Australia's leading international universities right here in the heart of Kuala Lumpur."
The future complete campus, which will be in addition to the current Malaysia campus, will house cutting-edge research centres in energy transition, health, AI, and data science, and is located in Kuala Lumpur's Financial District alongside world-class financial institutions to accelerate collaboration, innovation and strengthen employment-integrated education.
More than 35 extra courses will be offered at the campus in priority fields vital to Malaysia and the future global workforce such as; digitisation, AI and cyber security, climate change and sustainability, healthcare and digital health, semiconductor and advanced manufacturing, banking and finance.
Dato' Sr Azmar Talib, Chief Operating Officer of TRX City, the master developer of Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), said Malaysia's international financial centre delivers strong catalytic economic and social value, and the collaboration with Monash University Malaysia contributes to the nation's long-term growth.
"Our partnership with Monash University strengthens Malaysia's competitiveness and connectivity with ASEAN through talent development. Monash University Malaysia's city campus will enrich TRX's diverse community and nurture the next generation of global thinkers," he said.
