The Allan Labor Government has fast-tracked hundreds of new homes to be built in Glen Waverley within walking distance of the future Suburban Rail Loop (SRL), station.
Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny has given the greenlight for 795 new homes on Springvale Road - accelerated through the Labor Government's Development Facilitation Program (DFP).
The $410 million development will feature two new 35 and 30-storey buildings - with a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments as well as basement parking and space for new retail.
The new homes will be built close to Glen Waverley Primary School, The Glen shopping centre, and the future SRL Glen Waverley Station.
The SRL station in Glen Waverley will deliver more connections to passengers and slash travel times for passengers:
- A student studying in Caulfield will shave 17 minutes off a journey to Glen Waverley
- Clayton to Glen Waverley will take just 3.5 minutes door-to-door, compared to around 34 minutes driving.
Since the DFP opened, more than 8,300 homes have been fast-tracked - ensuring more homes are built closer to world class transport.
Construction of the SRL is powering ahead, with more than 3,000 people already working on the project and tunnelling starting this year.
As Australia's largest housing project, the SRL will support the delivery of 70,000 new homes across the six station precincts - helping more young Victorians to find and afford a home within walking distance of public transport.
As stated by Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny
"We are getting on delivering more homes for young Victorians, so that they can have the same opportunities their parents had."
"More houses mean more opportunities, and that is exactly what this new development will provide for those wanting to live in Glen Waverley."
As stated by Minister for Suburban Rail Loop Harriet Shing
"The Suburban Rail Loop will slash travel times and cut congestion for busy families - while delivering 70,000 more homes within walking distance to jobs, healthcare, green open spaces and Australia's largest universities."
"We are getting on delivering a new underground station in the heart of Glen Waverley, with more homes, jobs, services and quality open space in walking distance."
As stated by Member for Glen Waverley John Mullahy
"The new SRL Glen Waverley Station will help connect our local community to jobs, education and world-class healthcare, and I am pleased to see this once-in-a-generation project progress further."
