More support needed for Homeless Connect 2023

Rockhampton Regional Council is once again calling on the community to support the annual Homeless Connect event to be held 18 May this year.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said Homeless Connect has an impressive track record of helping vulnerable members of our community and while some donations have started coming in, much more is needed.

"We have been working closely with our support agencies to make sure there is plenty on offer at this year's event, but we are really asking the community to step up and assist with donations," Cr Wickerson said.

"We are especially seeking more donations of non-perishable food, toiletries, and female hygiene products, which will be made up into hampers to be given out on the day.

"Donations of clothing, shoes and linen are also appreciated but right now, it is the food and toiletries that we are in desperate need of.

"As well as picking up a hamper, our community will have access to a range of services on the day and can even enjoy a home cooked meal.

"This event also connects our community who are struggling, to a network of support agencies.

"Whether its help finding accommodation, pastoral care, to health and financial advice and much more, there is always a wealth of support and knowledge that people can tap into at this event."

Donations can be dropped at the following locations:

  • All food, toiletry and female hygiene products can be delivered to the School of Arts Building at 230 Bolsover Street between 9am-4pm Monday to Friday until 5 May 2023.
  • Clothing, shoes, linen can be delivered to Jacks House at 122 Kent Street Rockhampton between 7am-7pm Monday to Friday until 5 May 2023.
