Moreton Bay: 551 Social, Affordable Homes Underway

Minister for Housing and Public Works and Minister for Youth The Honourable Sam O'Connor
  • Crisafulli Government delivers record $5.6 billion investment in social and community homes across Queensland.
  • 551 social and affordable homes under contract or in construction in the Moreton Bay housing pipeline.
  • 82 community homes completed in Redcliffe.
  • The Government is delivering a place to call home for more Moreton Bay Queenslanders.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a place to call home for Moreton Bay locals with 551 social and affordable homes in construction or under contract across the region.

It is one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy in Queensland, with building industry red tape reform and a record $5.6 billion investment over four years laying the foundations to deliver 53,500 social and community homes by 2044.

The Crisafulli Government's housing help follows a decade of underinvestment, where Labor failed to plan for Queensland's growing population and added just 509 social homes on average per year.

After significant delays and decline under Labor, we've done the work needed to get 82 homes in Redcliffe completed and ready for locals to have a place to call home.

These 82 homes have been delivered by BHC in partnership with QIC, and jointly funded by the Queensland Government, and Housing Australia's National Housing Infrastructure Facility.

In just ten months Queensland's housing pipeline is ramping up to deliver an average of 2,000 social and community homes each year by the end of this term.

There are now over 5,600 social and affordable homes under contract or in construction across the state, almost twice the number Labor had locked in at the time of their last Budget.

This includes 75 social homes in Deception Bay, 21 social homes in Petrie, 24 social homes in Strathpine and 58 social homes in Morayfield.

Moreton Bay will also be home to one of eight new Youth Foyers for the state, with early design works already underway for the Redcliffe site.

Youth Foyers provide young people aged 16 to 25 who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness with safe and stable housing and wraparound support while they complete education, gain employment and transition to independent living.

Housing Minister Sam O'Connor said the Crisafulli Government was delivering the fresh start Queenslanders voted for, exactly as promised.

"We are delivering more social and community homes in every corner of Queensland," Minister O'Connor said.

"Under Labor, an average of just 509 delivered per year - barely a third of the rate Queensland's population grew over the same period.

"We're ramping up construction to deliver 2,000 social and community homes each year by the end of this term.

"Projects like this one at Redcliffe are vital to meeting the need for social and community housing for Moreton Bay locals waiting for a place to call home.

"As Housing and Youth Minister I'm determined to give more young people in communities across Queensland the opportunities a youth foyer creates - a safe home and a pathway to build a better future for themselves.

"While we have locked-in a record pipeline for social and community housing and are delivering more homes sooner with the Residential Activation Fund, there is much more to be done to deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders, and we remain committed to delivering the fresh start we promised."

Member for Redcliffe Kerri-Anne Dooley said this new delivery of 82 social and community homes in Redcliffe was a significant step forward in supporting our local residents.

"These homes will provide stability and dignity for some of our most vulnerable, Ms Dooley said.

"I commend the Crisafulli Government for taking real action to address housing affordability and for delivering meaningful outcomes for the people of Redcliffe."

BHC acting CEO Jamie Muchall said the Solstice complex was a shining example of what could be achieved through strong partnerships.

"As our first development in the City of Moreton Bay, it reflects our commitment to expanding access to social and affordable housing in communities where it's needed most," Mr Muchall said.

"This milestone is more than bricks and mortar. It's about creating safe, secure homes that offer dignity and connection for older Queenslanders."
