Moreton Bay Regional Council is receiving $9.3 million for community infrastructure

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning The Honourable Dr Steven Miles

Moreton Bay Regional Council is receiving $9.3 million for shovel-ready community infrastructure projects that could create hundreds of jobs.

The council will share in $100 million over the next three years through the Palaszczuk Government's South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program (SEQCSP).

A critical part of Queensland's plan for economic recovery, the Stimulus Program will create jobs across SEQ by assisting councils to fast-track investment in new infrastructure.

In 2020, through the COVID Works for Queensland program and the Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Package, the South East councils received $100 million to help deliver 151 projects, which the councils estimate will support or create more than 2,500 jobs.

The Palaszczuk Government went to the last election promising to deliver a further $200 million over six years for SEQ's councils.

Through the SEQCSP, $74 million is allocated to the councils and the remaining $26 million will be distributed on a competitive application basis.

Moreton Bay Regional Council is receiving $9.3 million from the $74 million worth of allocation funding.

Attributable to Member for Morayfield and Minister for Police Services Mark Ryan:

"We went to the last election promising to deliver another $200 million more in stimulus funding for the South East and today we're delivering on that, with Moreton Bay Regional Council to receive $9.3 million from the first round."

"Investing in councils is all about investing in communities, here in Redcliffe we will see Moreton Bay Regional Council deliver a segregated bike path in Clontarf which will generate 7 local jobs."

"Previous rounds have been hugely popular with both councils and the community; in Pine Rivers we've seen that firsthand with the construction of the Nolan Park BMX Precinct which has supported 40 local jobs during the construction phase."

Attributable to Member for Bancroft Chris Whiting:

"Moreton Bay's economic recovery is well and truly underway and this Stimulus Program will deliver more jobs on top of the 310 we've already delivered through previous rounds."

Attributable to Member for Kurwongbah Shane King:

"By teaming up with Moreton Bay Regional Council we're helping to deliver more council infrastructure for our community and support the construction jobs to build it." Attributable to Member for Pumicestone Ali King:

"We've got a strong record delivering projects and local jobs in cooperation with Moreton Bay Regional Council, for example here in Pumicestone we've seen the construction of a new carpark for the Bongaree Butterfly House deliver 5 local jobs."
