Mornington Peninsula's Small Business Festival Triumphs

Mornington Peninsula Shire's first Small Business Festival went off without a hitch! During the month of August, more than 700 small business owners and operators participated in workshops, activities and presentations on topics including marketing, financial advice, sustainability and staffing challenges.

The festival opened with an inspiring breakfast event at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, featuring a thought-provoking keynote address by Mark McCrindle, a globally recognised social researcher, best-selling author and influential thought leader. Mark's insights into the emerging generation, Generation Alpha, set the tone for the festival's future-focused approach.

Throughout the festival, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of events. The ever-popular marketing-focused workshops included topics such as social media, Canva and podcasts, equipping participants with valuable skills to enhance their business. Additionally, workshops on grants, starting new businesses, allergen food training, and networking were offered, catering to a wide range of interests and needs within the small business community.

The festival also extended its support to connecting local businesses with jobseekers and new ways to approach their staffing shortages through a Workforce Forum event at Chisholm and the Mornington Peninsula Jobs Expo. This event aimed to empower businesses with insights from successful case studies, as well as funding and grant support available. Attendees came away with skills solutions and options to bridge the talent gap in their business.

What's next for small business?

In October, we're launching free mental health training for small business. Together with local organisation Speak & Share, we've developed a workshop and online resources to help you feel confident when discussing mental health with your team. Tickets are available now at: mpbusiness.com.au/wellbeing
