The Sport Integrity Australia National Strategy for Information Sharing (NSIS) agreement with the Australian Federal Police and ACT Policing was signed last week.
Sport Integrity Australia CEO David Sharpe APM OAM signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Australian Federal Police Commissioner Reece Kershaw APM.
The MoU will assist in building partnerships and capabilities to better identify and respond to threats to sports integrity when they emerge; and allow law enforcement to assist our agency to protect sport from crime.
Sport Integrity Australia Deputy CEO Susie Ball, who was instrumental in securing the agreement, commended both agencies and thanked the AFP for their support in developing the agreement, and commitment to working together on threats to sports integrity.
"This MOU will capture not only the information sharing between the agencies but will allow us to look at training opportunities together and possible other secondment arrangements to ensure coverage and expertise in this growth agency," Ball said.
Sharpe added: "We have had so many matters come through our complaints lines and both Commonwealth and state law enforcement in Australia has been exceptional in helping, guiding and assisting us through our multiple complaints and requests on protection matters."
AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw said the agreement bolstered our commitment to working with Sport Integrity Australia to maintain the protection and transparency of our sporting industry.
"Sport forms an integral part of Australian society and this partnership sends a strong message that the AFP is committed to ensuring a safe environment for those most vulnerable, particularly our children."
The signing of the agreement was also attended by AFP acting Assistant Commissioner Joanne Cameron, Deputy Chief Police Officer ACT Policing, and Deputy Superintendent Callum Hughes, AFP Commissioners office, along with key Sport Integrity Australia staff who were instrumental in delivering this important milestone.
Queensland Police Service signed on to the NSIS in December 2022, and all other Australian law enforcement jurisdictions are preparing to sign agreements in 2023.
