Mount Spec Forestry Road repairs underway

The popular Paluma Dam campground will soon be reopened to the community with work underway to repair Mount Spec Forestry Road, left damaged by this year's unprecedented monsoon.

Townsville City Council has contracted BMD Constructions to undertake the work which is expected to be completed next month, subject to weather conditions.

The work will include repairs to scoured sections and grading of the 11.6 km road which has been closed since April.

Townsville Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Cr Les Walker said Council was keen to reopen the road to public as soon as possible.

"Paluma is a popular camping spot and it's good news for Townsville families that the area will again be accessible as a result of this work," Cr Walker said.

"Council will advise the public when the work is finished and the road is reopened so they can again book their camping spots on Council's website."

Mount Spec Forestry Road – also known as Paluma Dam Road – is used to access the camping grounds at Paluma Dam.
