Arrest Made After Hillcrest Firearms Incident

One person been charged following a firearms incident in Hamilton yesterday.

Police received report of an air gun being fired at a member of the public at a bus stop on Masters Avenue near Hillcrest Park just before 3pm.

That person sustained moderate injuries and was transported for medical treatment.

Following extensive enquiries, at approximately 1am today, the Armed Offenders Squad and CIB assisted front line staff at a Hamilton property where firearms, ammunition and other weapons were discovered.

Police want to thank members of the public who helped with enquiries, and Police continue to work with community members who may have witnessed the incident.

An 18-year-old Hamilton man is facing charges of wounding with reckless disregard, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of an offensive weapon.

He will appear in the Hamilton District Court tomorrow.
