Murray River Council is inviting members of the community to join Council's new Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee (AIAC).
The AIAC will provide feedback, advice and guidance to Council on ways to improve access and inclusion for people with disabilities when interacting with council services.
Mayor, Frank Crawley said the Council is looking for a diverse range of representatives from right across the council area.
"We're looking for local people with lived experience of disability to advise Council on how we can improve access to, and inclusion in Council's services, facilities and programs."
"This might be people living with a disability, carers or those who work in the disability sector."
"Once established, we'll be looking to the committee to help us develop and implement policies, procedures, planning and programming to increase community inclusion outcomes," he said.
Key responsibilities for committee members will include advising on the implementation of Council's Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP), recommending ways to enhance accessibility in Council-owned buildings and infrastructure, and providing insights on how services, public programs and events can become more inclusive.
The committee will also play a vital role in advising on the accessibility of Council's communication activities, such as publications, websites and social media.
Locals who have lived experience in the disability space and are interested in being part of the committee are encouraged to submit an EOI to Council by 15 March 2024.
