Music micro-festival this weekend caps off Live and Local program

The Live and Local program will culminate in a music micro-festival this weekend as local musicians perform a series of free gigs in venues across the city.

LIVE AND LOCAL: Orange City Council Employment and Economic Development Committee chair Tony Mileto, Harley & Hem owner Tristan Moon and musician Darren Smith ahead of this weekend's Live and Local music festival.

The micro-festival will cap off a month of events designed to boost the local music industry by building expertise and connections between performers, venues and producers.

The Live and Local program was launched at an industry forum on 31 August, which was attended by more than 35 members of the local music scene to discuss the industry in Orange and offer feedback on long-term strategies to support the growth of the industry.

It was followed by a series of skill-building workshops focusing on key topics such as copyright, royalties, publicity tools and marketing, giving people working in the local music scene the chance to learn from industry experts.

Orange City Council Employment and Economic Development Policy Committee Chair Cr Tony Mileto encouraged everyone to take this opportunity to enjoy a fantastic weekend of great live music at a range of popular, and unique, venues across the district.

"Live and Local has been all about growing the local live music scene, and it's a fantastic sign of that growth that we have venues putting up their hands to try a live music performance for the first time," Cr Mileto said.

"The entertainment industry was one the hardest hit by the pandemic and this is an opportunity for us all to get out there, show our support for the venues and performers that call our region home and help rebuild a thriving local music scene."

"It was great to see so many people participating in the forum and taking advantage of the free workshops to boost their understanding of the industry, which will not only benefit them, but live music fans across the region."

The Live and Local micro-festival will kick off on Friday evening, 23 September, and run through until Sunday evening, 25 September.
