Nation Faces Dry, Sunny Week Ahead

BOM
Hello from the Bureau, here's a look at the weather for the week ahead, from today Sunday the 21st of September.

We're well and truly into spring and that means storm season a has arrived in the east, and there were a few storms around Queensland and New South Wales on Saturday but a relatively clear day elsewhere.

Sunday will be a settled, sunny and dry day for most of the country, except for sparse showers in the north and along the Queensland coast, and cool wintry showers for Victoria and Tasmania.

Most of the rain is confined to the south-east corner of the country on Monday, alongside cold winds, hail and possible snow. Rainfall totals are less than 10mm, except for higher falls up in the mountains. A few hit-and-miss showers are possible along the Queensland coast, but many places will avoid rainfall, and it's dry right through the interior with high fire danger due to gusty winds and sunny skies.

One area to watch on Tuesday is the New South Wales coast with the risk of some heavy showers or storms in the morning. However, there's certainly a chance this rain could stay over the water and miss the mainland. The spring equinox will pass on Tuesday, and the longer days mean the bushfire risk grows.

Apart from this, Tuesday and then Wednesday will both be extremely dry days around Australia, with the chance of a few millimetres of rain for coastal parts of Victoria and Tasmania, but little to no rain falling in any other rain gauges across the country.

And it's more of the same of Thursday. Outside of Victoria and Tasmania your chances of rainfall are basically zero under sunny skies. Seasonal temperatures across the country except for southern Western Australia where those temperatures are way above average, as much as 12 degrees higher, pushing towards a 30-degree maximum in Perth.

It's a fittingly dry finish to the week everywhere except for western and central Tasmania and southern Victoria. And most of the country will experience summer-like temperatures on Friday, a long way above the springtime averages.

And that's the forecast for the week, done and dusted, we'll see you again next time.
