The Australian Government's National AI Plan 2025 will underwrite Australia's future and secure our place in the global AI ecosystem.
The Group of Eight acknowledges the comprehensive nature of the strategy which aims to ensure that all Australians are up skilled to use AI to enhance their work and life, with the inclusion of appropriate guardrails.
Go8 Chief Executive Vicki Thomson said the plan will help drive productivity, and maintain Australia's reputation as a nation at the forefront of the international high-tech industries.
"AI technologies offer huge opportunities for society and the higher education sector and have the potential to transform the way we teach, learn, assess and access education. The Go8 is determined to grasp those opportunities in ways that benefit students, researchers and staff, while protecting the integrity of the Go8's quality education offering and world class research.
"The Government's national plan underscores the importance of research and innovation. Australia has deep capacity and capability in AI, through the research that we undertake and the graduates who not only know how to use AI - in whatever their field of endeavour - but are equipped to drive the future use of AI, ensuring we are not just a nation of AI adopters but of AI entrepreneurs.
"This is where our universities will make its strongest contribution and the Go8 looks forward to working with the Government on delivering this in the national interest."
