The Morrison Government has announced $1 million to tour Australian and international exhibitions to 32 venues across regional Australia through the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach program.
Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the program will support the National Cultural Institutions to develop and tour exhibitions, providing regional audiences access to significant works of art.
"Australians enjoy getting out and about to experience cultural activities in their local community and this funding will bring diverse stories and immersive experiences to our regions," Minister Fletcher said.
Eighteen exhibitions will receive development and touring support, including:
- $179,430.00 for the National Film and Sound Archive to tour The Dressmaker Costume Exhibition, celebrating the work of leading Australian female creatives, to Winton, Tamworth and Toowoomba.
- $153,399 for the National Gallery of Australia to develop or tour three exhibitions including Body Language: Cultural Identity Expressed Through the Language of Body Art, to Lismore, Horsham and Lake Macquarie.
- $134, 272 for the National Portrait Gallery of Australia to develop or tour five exhibitions, including the touring of the 'National Photographic Portrait Prize 2020' to Roma and Grafton.
"Each of the National Collecting Institutions receiving funding will work within the relevant State COVID-19 health and safety guidelines to ensure the safety of audiences viewing these exhibitions," Minister Fletcher said.
The National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach program supports the Australian National Maritime Museum, Bundanon Trust, Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, National Archives of Australia, National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, National Gallery of Australia, National Library of Australia, National Museum of Australia and the National Portrait Gallery of Australia to tour Australian and international cultural material to audiences around the country and to take Australian works overseas.
The Government invests around $750 million in the arts and cultural sector through its regular funding programs each year, supporting social cohesion, mutual understanding and stronger communities.
