National Garage Sale Trail event encourages Australians to reuse

  • More than 400,000 Australians expected to take part in Garage Sale Trail 2018
  • Weekend campaign promotes reuse through buying and selling second-hand items

On October 20 and 21, more than 400,000 waste-conscious sellers and shoppers across Australia will take part in the Garage Sale Trail - the nation's biggest weekend of garage sales.

Promoting the message 'choose to reuse', the Garage Sale Trail is supported by funding from the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Account, with more than 35 Western Australian local governments set to participate in the 2018 event.

To help promote this message, Environment Minister Stephen Dawson and Garage Sale Trail co-founder Andrew Valder visited Higgins Park Tennis Club, in East Victoria Park, to drum up support for the national sale.

The Higgins Park Tennis Club is set to host a garage sale on Sunday October 21, 2018. All proceeds from the club's fundraiser will be used to construct new hard courts.

With more than two million items expected to be listed at more than 15,000 garage sales across Australia, the tennis club's items are just some of the many treasures and bargains to be found on the trail when it kicks off later this month.

WA is set to continue its high participation levels this year with more than 100,000 Western Australians expected to take part in the event.
