The Morrison Government has announced the reappointment of Dr Mathew Trinca as Director of the National Museum of Australia (NMA) for a second five year term, commencing 17 February 2019.
Dr Trinca has more than 20 years' experience in the museum sector and has served as the Director of the NMA since 2014.
Under Dr Trinca's leadership, the NMA has negotiated multiple international partnerships with leading institutions including the British Museum and Singapore's National Heritage Board, and secured numerous international venues for NMA curated exhibitions. Dr Trinca has also overseen the launch of the new Gandel Atrium and the Defining Moments Digital Classroom initiative, which allows students from across the country to explore Australia's history.
Dr Trinca is the Co-Chair of the Australia Singapore Arts Group, a member of the Council of Australasian Museum Directors and the International Council of Museums.
Dr Trinca's vast experience and extensive domestic and international stakeholder relationships will ensure the NMA is well positioned to continue building on the record-breaking success of exhibitions such as the NMA curated Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters and Old Masters: Australia's Great Bark Artists and History of the World in 100 Objects and Rome: City and Empire from the British Museum.
The National Museum develops, preserves and exhibits Australia's national historical collection.
