National Weather Forecast: Showers Clearing East Coast

BOM
Hello with your National Weather Forecast as we take a look at what we're expecting for tomorrow. That's for Friday the 29th of May.

First, having a look at the synoptic map, and the main weather feature continues to be the surface trough and low pressure system off the east coast. It's generating widespread showers and thunderstorms, but conditions will gradually ease through the afternoon. This weather system push off into the Tasman Sea.

Into the afternoon, we will see a cold front approaching the south-east of the country, showers building for South Australia and south-west Victoria, and those showers continue sweeping towards the east heading into the weekend. A few showers also about the south coast of Western Australia, and that's ahead of the next weather system. That low pressure system over the Indian Ocean will also move through over the weekend.

For the rest of the country though, we are seeing a broad ridge of high pressure that's maintaining mostly dry and mild conditions across northern Australia.

We see showers across the south-east gradually clearing off into the morning. It will be a mostly dry afternoon, but still some cloud sticking around the Darling Downs, but sunshine returning to the south-east coast. But with those dry westerly winds, we will finally see the humidity flushing out over the water.

For the rest of Queensland, we are expecting to see a cool start inland dropping down into single digits, but then a mild and sunny day to follow, and mild and sunny conditions all the way up into the far north of the state. For Brisbane, slight chance of a shower, most likely before dawn, and then a partly cloudy top of 23 °C. Sunny up in Cairns with a top of 27 °C.

A low pressure system will drive heavy rainfall onto the Hunter and Mid North Coast. We could see heavy falls and there is a possibility of flooding, so keep an eye on the latest updates there.

Those showers will clear away from Sydney and the Central Coast into the middle of the day, and then showers will gradually clear out for the rest of the coast into the afternoon and evening. For the rest of New South Wales, a bit of patchy fog in the south-east to start, but it will be a mostly sunny and mild day to follow.

For Sydney, a couple of showers clearing out by about noon, 22 °C. For Canberra, patchy morning fog, but then a sunny top of 19 °C to follow.

We will see patchy fog and low cloud, mainly in the east during the morning, and some cloud will stick around the south coast with just a few showers brushing through during the day.

In the afternoon there, we will see cloud thicken from the west and showers push through into the south-west and also the Wimmera, as far north as about Horsham, and those showers will keep moving eastwards as we head into Friday night and also into Saturday.

It will be quite a cool day though, with winds freshening from the west into the afternoon and evening. For Melbourne, we could have patchy fog, partly cloudy and a top of 16 °C to follow. Cloudy from Mildura with a top of 18 °C.

We'll see areas of inland fog and low cloud. The fog will lift, but it will be mostly cloudy across the state for the rest of the day. A few showers about the south-west coast, we could see a few light spots of showers across inland areas through the day.

Light winds though, but we will see those northerly winds freshening from the west as that cold front approaches, and the showers will move to western parts of the state into Saturday. For Hobart, we are expecting the slight chance of a shower through the day, partly cloudy with 17 °C. Cloudy for Launceston, also with a top of 17 °C.

Patchy fog across the east and the south-east of the state. That will lift to a partly cloudy day, and then through the afternoon this cold front approaches from the west, showers building for the southern peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island and also the Fleurieu.

And a few showers also make its way up towards the Adelaide area as well, but mostly clearing off by the evening. Just a few showers lingering about the southern coastline.

For Adelaide, partly cloudy morning, but then showers building from the afternoon with a top of 19 °C. Mostly dry in the north, reaching the low to mid 20s.

We will see a few showers about the south coast during the morning. Also about the south-west, will push up towards the metro area into the late morning and also early afternoon, but the showers will gradually ease away into the evening.

Mostly dry for the rest of the Wheatbelt, and then into the evening a few showers will move down towards the Shark Bay area, and further rainfall moving across the west coast as we head into Saturday and also Sunday.

For Perth, partly cloudy, slight chance of a shower or two with a top of 19 °C, and remaining quite warm into the high 20s across the Pilbara.

Really not much changed from the last few days. We are expecting dry conditions right across the Kimberley and also the Northern Territory, and dry eastly winds pushing all the way through.

So for Darwin, a sunny top of 31 °C and reaching the high 20s across the Kimberley.
