On Thursday (28 May 2026), NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte met with Prime Minister of Hungary, Péter Magyar, in Brussels to discuss preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara.
Mr Rutte praised Hungary for its contributions to the Alliance's deterrence and defence, including leading one of NATO's Forward Land Forces, hosting HQ Multinational Division Centre in Székesfehérvár, and supporting security in the Western Balkans, with substantial contributions to NATO's peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR.
The Secretary General highlighted that at the NATO Summit in Ankara, Allies will focus on turning commitments made in The Hague into concrete results: increasing defence investment, ramping up defence production, and sustaining support to Ukraine. He underscored that "all of this contributes to a stronger NATO and greater security for us all."
