Need for new West Gippsland Hospital is clear

Liberal Party Victoria

For more than a decade, the Warragul, Drouin and wider West Gippsland community have loudly advocated the need for a new local hospital, and only a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will deliver it.

The existing West Gippsland Hospital is outdated, and no longer meet the needs of a growing community.

While Daniel Andrews focuses on a $35 billion rail line from Cheltenham to Box Hill, the Liberals and Nationals will continue to focus on what matters to all Victorians – the health system they rely on.

That's why Matt Guy has committed $400 million toward building a new hospital in Warragul, which forms part of the Liberals and Nationals' plan for to fix the health crisis in Victoria.

With plenty of major announcements to come, our plan to date includes:

  • New West Gippsland Hospital
  • New Mildura Hospital
  • New Albury/Wodonga Hospital
  • New Melton Hospital
  • New Werribee Children's Hospital
  • New Shepparton Cancer Centre and Health School
  • New Infectious Diseases Response Centre
  • Upgraded Sandringham Hospital
  • Redevelopment of St Arnaud Hospital
  • Redevelopment of Rosebud Hospital
  • Redevelopment of Caulfield Hospital
  • New Armstrong Creek ambulance station
  • Halving the elective surgery waiting list
  • Free public transport for health workers
  • Drug and alcohol centres across the state
  • 2500 more mental health practitioners in schools
  • $4500 rebate for IVF patients

The Andrews Labor Government has ignored pleas from local healthcare providers to match the Liberals and Nationals' commitment.

Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy, said the investment would help fix the ongoing healthcare crisis across Victoria.

"The Andrews Labor Government has had eight years to do this," Mr Guy said.

"We committed to building this facility at the last election in 2018 for a reason — it was needed then, and it is needed now.

"Four years later, and the people of West Gippsland are no closer to receiving the new hospital they desperately need and deserve.

"A Government I lead will get it done. It's never been more important."

Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier, said only the Liberals and Nationals had a plan for better healthcare in Gippsland.

"Building a new hospital in Warragul will hand confidence back to people of West Gippsland, knowing that they will get the quality healthcare they deserve, close to home when they need it."

Liberal Candidate for Narracan, Wayne Farnham, said a new hospital remained the key issue for the local community.

"A new West Gippsland Hospital has been the number one project consistently raised with me since I was preselected as the Liberal Candidate for Narracan," Mr Farnham said.

"More than 1,000 babies are born here every year, building on the more than 1,000 people a year that move to this region.

"West Gippsland is growing, and this can't be delayed any longer. Only a Matt Guy led Government will build a new hospital once and for all."
