May 2025 update

This week is National Reconciliation Week. It is a time for all Australians to explore how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in Australia. The 2025 theme Bridging Now to Next reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.

NESP recognises this connection and values the experiences, perspectives and cultures of Indigenous Australians. NESP researchers partner with Indigenous land and sea managers to weave together Indigenous and western knowledge systems. Researchers and managers work together to apply Indigenous-led approaches to achieve better outcomes on Country.

The NESP Indigenous Partnership Principles underpin all NESP research projects. They make sure Indigenous research partnerships are founded on:

  • respect, collaboration and mutual benefit
  • Free, Prior and Informed Consent
  • rights to Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property.
