Expressions of Interest are open for Aboriginal Territorians to apply for membership of the new Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Aboriginal Advisory Group (AAG).
The AAG will provide advice and information to the Minister for Prevention of Domestic Violence on improving how domestic, family and sexual violence is prevented and responded to, particularly as it impacts Aboriginal people, families and communities across the Northern Territory.
The new AAG replaces the previous Aboriginal Advisory Board, with a strengthened focus on two‑way information sharing, lived experience, and strong connections with communities.
Members will be appointed following an Expression of Interest process and will include Aboriginal people with experience in domestic, family and sexual violence policy, programs, services and initiatives. People with lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, Robyn Cahill, said "The Aboriginal Advisory Group plays a critical role in ensuring Aboriginal voices, knowledge and lived experience help shape how we prevent and respond to domestic, family and sexual violence in the Territory."
"We want to hear from Aboriginal people who are connected to their communities and passionate about creating safer futures for women, children and families."
The Group will comprise 11 members, including an independent chairperson, and will meet quarterly in Darwin. Members from regional and remote communities, or those based outside Darwin, will be supported to attend meetings.
Eligible applicants must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people living in the Northern Territory. Members will be appointed by the Minister for a three‑year term, with sitting fees and reasonable travel costs paid in line with the Northern Territory Government Boards Handbook here.
