New Administrator Appointed For Norfolk Island

The Australian Government has appointed Fiona McKergow as the new Administrator of Norfolk Island, following a comprehensive selection process conducted in line with the Government's principles of integrity, accountability and transparency.

Ms McKergow will commence her term on 1 June 2026, following her formal appointment by the Governor-General and a swearing-in ceremony on 27 May 2026.

She is a senior Australian diplomat with extensive experience in public administration and community engagement, particularly across the Pacific region.

Ms McKergow has held high-level positions with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and AusAid, working across complex policy, development, and governance portfolios.

She brings deep experience in strengthening partnerships, supporting communities, and delivering practical outcomes across the Pacific and South Asia, experience that will be central to progressing shared Government and community priorities for Norfolk Island.

She will be the first woman to hold this important role.

As Norfolk Island moves into the next phase of enhancing local governance and public administration, Ms McKergow's experience will be vital.

Her appointment will build on the solid groundwork laid by current Administrator, George Plant, while bringing new capability to support the Island's future needs.

The Administrator is the Australian Government's senior representative on Norfolk Island.

It is a significant public office with statutory, civic and ceremonial duties and is central to supporting good governance, strengthening relationships with the community and facilitating the effective delivery of Australian Government programs and priorities.
