New Assistant Commissioners appointed, South Australia

Commissioner of Police, Grant Stevens is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Assistant Commissioners to SAPOL's Executive Leadership Team.

Giovanni (John) Venditto will take up the position of Assistant Commissioner Crime Service after 37 years of service to South Australia Police. He currently manages SAPOL's Security and Emergency Management Co-ordination Branch which includes the counter terrorism portfolio.

Assistant Commissioner Venditto has undertaken broad study and experiential learning and development opportunities in Hong Kong, Cambridge and Italy which have provided him with a cultured understanding of the international policing environment. He is a dual citizen (Australia/Italy) and speaks fluent Italian.

"John Venditto brings a wealth of experience to the SAPOL Executive Leadership Team particularly in the area of criminal investigations, having managed SAPOL's Major Crime Investigation Branch, Sexual Crime Investigation Branch and Anti-Corruption Branch," said Commissioner Stevens.

Current COVID-19 Response Coordinator Stuart McLean joined SAPOL in 1989 and has served at various metropolitan country police stations. In 1998 he transferred to the Police Academy as an instructor and in 2003 returned to general duties as a sergeant.

Stuart holds a Bachelor of Management, a Master of Business Administration and is a graduate of the Australia Institute of Company Directors. He has served with the Royal Australian Air Force Reserve for 24 years including an overseas deployment.

"Stuart McLean has been an officer of police in SAPOL since 2005 and he has held various positons in Traffic Services Branch, the Police Academy, Human Resources, Prosecution Services Branch and State Operations Service. He brings a diverse background to our Executive Leadership Team and his current knowledge of the COVID-19 environment is invaluable to the organisation," said Commissioner Stevens.

Commissioner Stevens further stated; "Assistant Commissioner Stuart McLean will head up Security and Emergency Management Service. Both Stuart and John are valued and experienced additions to our Executive Leadership Team."
