New Bridge, Roads to Unlock Key Housing Development

  • Package of road and bridge works delivered to help unlock thousands of new homes
  • Program of works supporting the redevelopment of Belmont Park Racecourse
  • Delivery of a new footbridge over Graham Farmer Freeway and modifications to local road connections completed by Main Roads
  • Works were jointly funded by the State Government and Golden Sedayu Pty Ltd

Road users in the Victoria Park precinct will now reap the benefits of improved connectivity to and from Burswood Park to high priority locations, such as Optus Stadium.

Works to upgrade the road network, and pedestrian and cyclist facilities adjacent to Belmont Park Racecourse and Graham Farmer Freeway, are now complete.

The package of works formed part of the $3.8 billion Burswood Point redevelopment and included a suite of civil improvements, including a new pedestrian bridge constructed over Graham Farmer Freeway, next to Victoria Park Drive. The former footpath on Victoria Park Drive bridge was also replaced with an additional southbound traffic lane.

Additionally, a new road, Seabiscuit Drive, was constructed to provide access to Belmont Park from Victoria Park Drive.

Other improvements undertaken include modifications to traffic signals, the installation of safety barriers, and upgrades to lighting and drainage.

The $30 million works package was jointly funded by the State Government and Golden Sedayu, each contributing $15 million.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Our government recognises the important role we have to play in delivering critical infrastructure that helps to unlock the housing our State needs.

"We have been working closely with key stakeholders over the past few years to ensure the Burswood Point redevelopment has the right support from the State Government.

"These upgrades will accommodate growing traffic numbers, and the increased pedestrian and cyclist volumes anticipated to arise from this transformational project.

"I am pleased the State Government has been able to play a pivotal role in this redevelopment, and I'm sure the completion of these civil works will act as a solid foundation for this future growth."
