A new learning module, Carbon 101 has been released via MLA's free eLearning platform, The Toolbox.
The Carbon 101 module provides information about carbon farming, greenhouse gases relevant to agriculture – including the carbon cycle – and explains the language of carbon. This is the first of four carbon eLearning modules to be released over the next six months.
This learning module is perfect for producers to start to learn about carbon and greenhouse gas emissions and are trying to get their head around what seems like a whole new language. Even for those who have a little more understanding, this module will explain some key concepts and terms.
What producers will learn:
- improve carbon literacy and better understand the language of carbon
- what are greenhouse gases, and how are they produced and cycle in a farming system
- what is the difference between carbon farming, carbon neutral and climate neutral
- how to start to improve carbon performance on-farm.
Working through the carbon eLearning modules will help producers understand what action they can take on-farm today for both their business and the red meat industry as a whole.
The four eLearning modules were developed and funded in partnership with Australian beef processor, Greenham with technical support from agribusiness consultants, Pinion Advisory.
Greenham Supply Chain Manager Jess Loughland said the modules would support the sustainability efforts of both Greenham and its cattle supplier network.
"We recognise the role carbon management plays in sustainable beef production, meeting broader industry targets such as CN30 and ultimately strengthening Greenham's supply chain into the future," Jess said.
"The development of the eLearning modules is the first step in demystifying carbon language and providing practical, easy-to-read resources for producers looking to take the reins on carbon management in their own businesses.
"Thank you to the Greenham cattle suppliers that volunteered their time and expertise to review the content of each module to ensure their readability, and farm gate practicality and value."
The eLearning modules include quizzes, images, and videos, and suit a range of learning styles. The modules will take between 15–20 minutes to complete.
