New Covid vaccination pop-up clinics as PCEC clinic closes

With WA’s vaccination rates at world-leading levels, one of the backbone clinics of the vaccination campaign, the Perth Convention and Exhibition and Centre (PCEC) COVID-19 vaccination clinic will close on Tuesday, 31 May.

The centrally based PCEC clinic has delivered more than 163,000 COVID-19 doses.

A WA Health spokesperson said that the closure of the PCEC clinic would free up WA health resources and provide the opportunity to bring smaller pop-up clinics into the suburbs closer to where people live.

“Shopping centres will once again roll up in support of the vaccination drive and facilitate pop-up clinics across the metropolitan area,” the spokesperson said

“The shopping centre pop-ups will offer more convenient opportunities for people to get vaccinated closer to home.”

New pop-up clinics will run at shopping centres across the Perth metropolitan area, including a new clinic due to open on 2 June at a Victoria Park shopping centre. Planning for additional pop-up clinics at shopping centres in the northern, eastern and southern suburbs is also underway.

There is no need to book, but as these new shopping centre clinics will only be open for four to six weeks, walk-ins are advised as soon as possible.

“Evidence has shown that vaccination is the number one weapon in the prevention of severe illness and hospitalisation due to COVID-19,” the spokesperson said.

“More than 81 per cent of eligible Western Australians aged 16 and older have already received their booster dose.

“We urge Western Australians to take advantage of these convenient and easily accessed shopping centre pop-up clinics, while they are open, or any of the State-run clinics, participating GPs and pharmacies.

“Get vaccinated to protect yourself, loved ones and community.”
