A new contacts directory will help adults aged 55 and older across Surf Coast Shire to Get Involved with more connected, active and inclusive lifestyles.

The Get Involved directory, to be provided as a printed booklet as well as an online resource, includes links to more than 100 clubs, groups, activities and services, encouraging people to make connections and increase participation in community life.

Surf Coast Shire Council has produced the guide as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting age-friendly communities.

Cr Tony Phelps: "The guide effectively opens doors to the many wonderful groups, activities and services available to help older adults across our shire age well, and in doing that aims to build social connections and promote health and wellbeing.

"Council produced its first Get Involved booklet in 2021, so we are delighted to be sharing this updated edition.

"We encourage older adults to pick the booklet up from one of our many distribution points, or check the directory out online, find some inspiration and make new connections.

"The guide includes contacts and locations for more than 80 community-based clubs, groups and activities, and more than 20 services and agencies providing support in areas including food relief, housing and accommodation, financial hardship, and mental health and drug and alcohol services."

The Get Involved booklet will be officially launched in October during Positive Ageing Month but copies will be available from August through Council and community outlets across the shire including:

  • Community houses
  • Council's Torquay civic office
  • Wurdi Baierr Stadium
  • Kurrambee Myaring Community Centre
  • Winchelsea Health Club
  • Aged care residential facilities
  • GP clinics and health centres
