A new, modern workforce attraction campaign has been developed to secure and retain critical workers across the Rockhampton Region.
Live Rockhampton which promotes the lifestyle and work opportunities across the region has officially been launched by Rockhampton Regional Council to help support local business, industry and organisations to attract workers, and represents a key action to address workforce attraction and retention challenges.
The campaign, which features a range of collateral and materials, can be utilised by employers to promote the benefits of moving and living in Rockhampton, including the region's good, well-paying jobs, diverse career opportunities, laid-back lifestyle, culture, short commutes, and housing affordability.
Developed by Council and the region's lead economic development agency, Advance Rockhampton, the Live Rockhampton campaign features a rolling, multi-platform campaign with:
- A dedicated website to inform and inspire new and prospective residents (https://liverockhampton.com.au/) containing more than 30 pages of information spanning topics from housing and healthcare, to parks and vet clinics
- Monthly blogs answering common questions from new and prospective residents
- An extensive Business Toolkit which can be utilised for recruitment purposes and includes images, videos, e-booklets, social tiles, email banners
- Printed booklets for employers to give to staff who have moved from out-of-region
- A 'Speak to a Local' function to assist new and prospective residents
- Paid advertising across multiple digital platforms
- Ongoing engagements with key employers in the region to support their use of the campaign in recruitment and onboarding
With more than 9,000 jobs expected to be created between 2024 and 2028, the campaign aims to fill key employment growths areas, particularly in the industries of healthcare, education, construction and resources.
The campaign has been developed using internal skills and expertise within existing Council resources and is part of Advance Rockhampton's ongoing program of initiatives to promote and drive economic development across the Rockhampton Region.
Importantly, the campaign will be available for local businesses to use as part of their own recruitment programs as well as being promoted by Council and Advance Rockhampton across media and social media platforms nation-wide.
Engagement with local business and industry as well as Live Rockhampton promotion will begin this week.
Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor, Tony Williams, said Council was committed to supporting and developing the local economy and driving workforce attraction, particularly in critical industries.
"We know that the job market is a real competition at the moment and that attracting and retaining workers is a big challenge for local business and industry," Mayor Williams said.
"That's why we've developed Live Rockhampton – to give our region that boost and promote the great benefits we know and love across the state and nation. If someone's relocating their whole life, they need a clear picture of the place and be able to imagine living there."
"Live Rockhampton showcases our parks and gardens, our natural destinations, our tourist attractions and arts and culture precincts. It showcases our dining offerings and the very best of what we have to offer."
"Likewise, it promotes our well-paid and secure jobs, work-life balance and housing affordability to potential workers outside the region.
"We know that we're in a race to secure workers against many of the other regions like Gladstone, Mackay and Townsville; and Live Rockhampton is a tool for business and Council alike to say 'come and live in Rocky and frankly live better."
Central Queensland Health Chief Executive, Lisa Blackler, said the health service was pleased to contribute to this important campaign.
"Two of our staff, Divya and Raj, moved to Rockhampton eight years ago for what was meant to be a six-month stint. Today, they're proud advocates for Rockhampton and the career opportunities available in our local health service and happily shared their story through Live Rockhampton," Ms Blackler said.
"Although we're already one of the region's biggest employers, we always have opportunities available to health workers from support staff through to specialist clinicians. Our recruitment team looks forward to working with Advance Rockhampton and having access to these tools promoting our region as one of opportunity and value and can't wait to welcome new staff to our ranks."
