  • Demonstrates Cook Government's commitment to invest in more inclusive communities

The Western Australian Government is continuing to deliver quality community sporting infrastructure across the State, with a new accessible playing surface recently opened at North Perth Bowling Club.

The upgrades were made possible through a $40,000 WA Labor Government election commitment and a $95,983 grant from the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund.

The redevelopment included the installation of a new synthetic bowling surface, drainage system and reticulation, and a specially engineered base designed to meet World Bowls standards.

The new synthetic surface offers a durable and weather-resilient green that can be used all year-round which is set to make the game more accessible for players of all ages and abilities.

The improved facility will also enable the club to host more tournaments and community events, strengthening social connections, and improving participation in local sport.

The project forms part of the State Government's PlayOn WA initiativeto deliver 2,030 community sport and recreation infrastructure items across WA by the year 2030.

PlayOn WA reflects the government's ongoing investment in healthier, more connected communities through the delivery of accessible sport and recreation spaces for all Western Australians.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The North Perth Bowling Club has been a much-loved part of this community for generations, and these upgrades will ensure it continues to thrive.

"Our government is delivering on its election commitments and investing in the local sporting clubs that keep communities active, inclusive and connected.

"This is all part of our PlayOn WA initiative to build modern, accessible facilities that make it easier for Western Australians to get involved in community sport and enjoy the benefits of physical activity."

As stated by Perth MLA John Carey:

"The North Perth Bowling Club is one of our community's largest sporting clubs that not only provides great opportunities for locals to stay active but is also an important space that brings people together.

"These upgrades will enable the bowling green to be used all year-round, supporting more community events, boosting participation, and delivering even greater benefits for our community."
