- Early and Mid-Career Researchers Reference Group established
- The Reference Group will boost researchers' national and international profile, policy engagement, mentoring and networks
- The group will ensure government science and technology policies effectively address the needs of early and mid-career researchers
The Cook Government has established the Early and Mid-Career Researchers (EMCR) Reference Group to strengthen the voice of emerging research leaders across the State.
Supported by the Chief Scientist of Western Australia, Professor Sharath Sriram, the Reference Group will empower Western Australia's early and mid-career researchers, who represent the future science and innovation workforce of WA.
The EMCR Reference Group will support the work of the WA Science and Technology Council and contribute to the broader implementation of the State's 10-Year Science and Technology Plan. It will also give a platform for EMCRs to raise their national and international profile, enhance policy and advocacy engagement, and build peer mentoring and professional networks.
This work will help ensure government policies and programs supporting science and technology effectively address the needs and priorities of early and mid-career researchers.
Membership of the Reference Group will comprise the leads of EMCR networks from WA public universities and medical research institutes.
Representatives from EMCR networks across 11 organisations have been invited to participate, including:

"The Cook Government understands that Western Australia's early and mid-career researchers are critical to driving discovery, innovation and economic diversification in our State.
"The establishment of the EMCR Reference Group ensures emerging research leaders have a direct voice in shaping the policies and programs that support a strong and sustainable science and technology sector.
"By supporting mentoring, networks and national and international engagement, this group will help build the next generation of research talent and strengthen WA's global research reputation."
