A $30,000 project to improve the playing surface at Perry Oval will make the venue more suitable for sporting groups of all ages.
A new automatic irrigation system is being installed to enable the field to be watered when required.

Once complete, Council's sportsground team will undertake weed-spraying and oversowing to boost the quality of the sportsground surface.
The team from Mid-West Irrigation has been at the oval the past couple of weeks putting in new underground pipes and pop-up sprinklers, and connecting wiring to the irrigation control box.
Despite being equipped with evening training lights, the condition of the field deteriorated through the last few years of drought due to the lack of a suitable irrigation system, and as a result local sporting groups have avoided Perry Oval as a training venue.
However, an increasing population and the growth of sporting clubs around the city means it is becoming more difficult to find enough suitable training venues, especially in winter when other ovals might be out of action due to boggy conditions.
These improvement will make Perry Oval a more useable space and ensure it meets the standard to cater for the needs of our sporting teams.
Orange City Council staff will begin the process of allocating Council sportsgrounds for the 2021 winter sports season in February, when local sporting associations and clubs will be invited to submit their requests for the use of Council sportsgrounds for training and competition purposes.
