New lease on life for Edgeworth Library building

Lake Macquarie City Council

Lake Macquarie City Council is seeking expressions of interest from community organisations to lease the Edgeworth Library building.

Edgeworth Library will close its doors in early 2023 to allow for the opening of the new Sugar Valley Library Museum at Cameron Park.

Lake Macquarie City Council Coordinator Social and Community Planning Stephen McAlister said the opening of Sugar Valley Library Museum would create an exciting opportunity for a community organisation to lease the Edgeworth Library building.

"The building boasts 120-square-metres of versatile floorspace and is centrally located on Minmi Road, close to Edgeworth Town Square, Edgeworth Memorial Neighbourhood Centre and Edgeworth Public School," Mr McAlister said.

"Community organisations that are seeking a high-visibility site on the M1's doorstep are encouraged to review the information pack and apply online at lakemac.com.au before Monday 28 November 2022."

Manager Arts, Tourism and Culture Jacqui Hemsley said the Sugar Valley Library Museum will be the first-of-its-kind in Lake Macquarie.

"The Sugar Valley Library Museum will provide an enhanced library experience where our growing north-western community can come together to learn, create and connect," Ms Hemsley said.

"Works are progressing well on-site and we're excited to welcome customers to discover their new space in early 2023."

To prepare for the opening of the Sugar Valley Library Museum, Edgeworth Library will be offering reduced services from 5 December 2022, with physical browsing of the library collection unavailable.

Customers will still be able to browse the collection digitally, pick up reservations, connect to wi-fi, access public computers and use the library's printing services.
