Plenty War Memorial Oval's new sports lighting was officially opened on Tuesday 21 April, making for safer and more flexible use of the facility for local clubs and the wider community.
The opening was attended by The Hon. Ros Spence MP, Minister for Community Sport and Lauren Kathage MP, Member for Yan Yean, alongside councillors, club representatives and community members.
Nillumbik Mayor Cr Naomi Joiner said the upgrade was an important investment in community sport.
"Facilities like Plenty War Memorial Oval are central to community connection and participation," Cr Joiner said.
Blue Lake Ward Councillor Grant Brooker said that the upgrade delivers brighter, safer and more energy‑efficient lighting, allowing for more training opportunities and supporting clubs to grow and retain players of all ages.
The oval is home to the Diamond Creek Women's Football Club and the Plenty Cricket Club, with the upgraded LED lighting improving visibility, safety and access for evening training and games through Winter.
Council provided a co contribution alongside the $203,000 received through the 2023/24 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, delivering the project in partnership with the Victorian Government.
The works included new lighting poles, LED fittings delivering 150 lux with light‑spill controls and upgrades to power supply and switchboards to support the modern system.
