Councillors Peter Johnstone and Cristie Yager have been elected as Clarence Valley Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively, following the September Ordinary Council Meeting held in Maclean on 17 September 2026.
Four Councillors nominated for the position of Mayor, with each nominee given three minutes to outline their intentions for the role and why they believed they were suited to the position. Through an elimination process, it came down to Councillor Ray Smith and Councillor Peter Johnstone.
Councillor Peter Johnstone was ultimately elected Mayor following a draw from the hat after Councillor Cairns abstained from the vote.
Mayor Johnstone previously served as Mayor for 11 months during the previous Council term.
