- His appointment brings great expertise and strong values of fairness and equity to the office
- Ombudsman plays critical role in ensuring Western Australians are treated fairly by public institutions
A former managing director of Victoria Legal Aid and chief executive of Launch Housing, Bevan Warner, has been appointed Ombudsman Western Australia, starting on 9 June 2025.
The WA Governor has appointed Bevan Warner as the Western Australian Parliamentary Commissioner for Administrative Investigations (Ombudsman).
A Western Australian with 35 years' experience in the public sector in two states, and a leader in the for-purpose charity sector delivering services to vulnerable people, Mr Warner brings a new focus to this vitally important independent office.
After starting his career in the WA public sector and then going on to lead significant reform and expansion of services as general manager of Legal Aid WA, Mr Warner moved to Melbourne in 2008 and was managing director of Victoria Legal Aid for 10 years.
Mr Warner was also chief executive officer of Launch Housing - a registered charity and community housing and homelessness services provider - from 2018 until May this year, before returning to Perth and be closer to family.
Current Acting Ombudsman David Robinson returns to his substantive role as Deputy Ombudsman when Mr Warner takes up his position.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"Mr Warner is an outstanding appointment as Western Australia's Ombudsman. He brings to this independent office a deep understanding of law and justice services and a lifelong commitment to fairness and equity.
"Mr Warner has championed the rights of vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens and upheld the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
"With his experience in leading and reforming large statutorily independent organisations, I am confident the office of the Ombudsman is well placed to meet the needs and interests of Western Australians into the future.
"I thank Deputy Ombudsman David Robinson for acting in the office of Ombudsman."
