Booking appointments and keeping track of immunisations is set to become easier and more convenient for people in Playford, with the launch of a new online immunisation booking system for Council-run immunisation clinics.
City of Playford is the first council in South Australia to introduce the new system powered by VaxApp, joining a network of councils in the eastern states who have already adopted the technology.
The system can be accessed on a web browser or by using the app downloaded onto a device.
City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said the online booking system suited busy families who wanted to keep up to date with immunisations.
"Our staff and nurses are more than happy to step you through the process on how to book so you don't need to wait in-line next time," said Mayor Docherty. "However, people can still walk-in to our clinics without an appointment, if preferred."
City of Playford operates two community clinics located in the GP Plus Healthcare building in Elizabeth and at the John McVeity Centre in Smithfield Plains.
"People can book their appointments online for a range of immunisation services," Mayor Docherty said. "We offer flu shots, school catch-ups, early childhood vaccinations (0-5 years) and a new arrivals program for people moving into Playford from overseas."
The current trend in the medical industry towards online booking, used frequently by GP practices, prompted Council to adopt the tool which most patients have now come to expect from health care providers.
"We continue to innovate to keep delivering a good customer experience," Mayor Docherty said. "Most services we use every day come with the added option to book online and we wanted to provide this option to our community."
The system can even remind users when their next immunisations may be due, making it easy for people who regularly visit family members in aged care or work with vulnerable people to stay protected.
