New Plan To Restore Dreams Of Home Ownership

Liberal Party Victoria
The Victorian Liberals and Nationals have today announced a new plan to deliver more homes, more choice and greater housing affordability for all Victorians.

Under Labor, Victoria has the highest property tax burden in the nation and fewer homes are being built now than were a decade ago.

Only the Liberals and Nationals have a plan to restore the dream of home ownership to Victorians. Our plan includes:

  • Fast-tracking home building in existing, identified growth areas - clearing Labor's backlog of 27 Precinct Structure Plans (PSPs) to get more homes built sooner.
  • Rejuvenate Melbourne CBD as a place to live and work - expanding the Capital City Zone (CCZ) to enable more development, housing and economic opportunity.
  • Liveable middle and outer suburbs - restoring the local voice to planning- supporting local voice to guide the future of neighbourhoods through community-led structure plans.
  • Building new homes in our regional centres - working directly with local councils to support sustainable growth across regional Victoria.

Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson, said: "We want every Victorian to have the best opportunity to own their own home.

"Under Labor, Victoria is building fewer homes now than a decade ago - meaning higher prices, higher rents and less choice.

"My team has a plan to improve housing affordability by releasing more land, bringing greater density to the inner city, protecting the voice of local residents and supporting growth in our regions."

Shadow Minister for Planning, David Southwick, said: "Under Labor, Victoria's construction sector is in decline and builders are openly saying 'Anywhere but Victoria'.

"To get more families and young Victorians into homes, we need a new plan to cut red tape, reduce costs and make it easier to build in Victoria.

"Only the Liberals and Nationals have a comprehensive plan to grow all of our state and providing Victorians choice as to where and how they live."
