SAPOL is continuously seeking new innovative ways of attracting potential applicants to join the organisation. Soon people across South Australia will see SAPOL's brand new addition travelling across the state emblazoned with outstanding livery promoting SAPOL as an employer of choice.
Police Commissioner Grant Stevens approved the acquisition of a mobile recruiting capability aimed at directly engaging with the community across the state.
This has resulted in the launch of the first purpose designed and built SAPOL recruitment van. The van has outstanding features including an internal office setup where potential applicants can apply to join SAPOL at the time using the online facilities available.
The van was assembled here in Adelaide by a local firm and has specifically been developed as a mobile recruitment and information hub. It can be used by any SAPOL area who may wish to promote recruiting at major sporting events; regional shows; shopping centres; or any other event in metropolitan or regional locations.
With regional areas in mind, the van is fitted with air conditioning; external generator if required; refrigeration; and is partly powered by rooftop solar panels keeping with a green theme.
Concurrent with the launch of the recruiting van has seen the development of an exciting new partnership with the Adelaide Footy League (AdFL).
The AdFL boasts having approximately 81 clubs with a combined player cohort of around 12,000 adult participants; 12,000+ juniors; and a reach of nearly 200,000 people each week.
"This exciting new partnership with the AFL offers a substantial opportunity for SAPOL; to not only seek potential police recruits, but also to promote road safety and other community initiatives reaching a large number of diverse people across our community," SAPOL's Executive Director of People Culture and Wellbeing Kim-Sherie Summers said.
"People across South Australia will soon see the recruiting van out and about spreading the strong message that SAPOL is a rewarding career; and we are recruiting right now. So if you see the van open for business please just go up and have a look and you can apply online at the time in the van. "
AdFL Chief Executive Officer Mr John Kernahan said of the new partnership with SAPOL, "We are very pleased to be able to form this partnership with SAPOL hoping we can assist them to attract and recruit potential applicants from amongst our fantastic group of players, supporters, parents and friends of the AdFL."
"Being a team player in SAPOL is like being a team player in any of our footy teams. We actively encourage the same type of values and fairness as SAPOL," Mr Kernahan said.
Minister for Police Joe Szakacs welcomed these outstanding initiatives acknowledging SAPOL's introduction of the new recruitment van and the corresponding partnership with the community based AdFL.
"SAPOL and the AdFL should be congratulated for working together and forming this exciting new partnership. Whether working in a team at work; or in a sporting environment, builds great rapport across the community. This is an excellent example of SAPOL and the community actively working together to develop new ideas in how to attract and recruit police officers," Police Minister Szakacs said.
"Combine this with the launch of the new recruiting van and it can be seen that everyone across the state are working extremely hard to introduce new and innovative ways to actively encourage people to join SAPOL."
