NDS's Sector Support Team has developed three new companion resources for NDIS providers in New South Wales.
Funded by the NSW Government Industry Development Fund, the resources are designed to support providers in NSW (and across the country) review and adapt their business and service models to meet the operating requirements under the NDIS.
The resources were launched at NDS's Virtual Quality and Safeguarding Conference, and are now available on the NDS website under resources.
The three resources are as follows.
Quality and Safeguards in the NDIS – A NSW Provider Process Guide
This guide maps the current NDIS Commission requirements against the previous NSW Quality & Safeguards framework under ADHC.
Providers can use some or all of the checklist to self-assess compliance with the NDIS Quality & Safeguards Commission requirements. It is not prescriptive, and applies to a wide range of organisations and service types.
Providers can also take what they need and customise it for their circumstances - E.g., In smaller organisations, a process might simply require creating one item on a checklist. In larger organisations, a detailed process might be needed.
The guide also helps providers promotes the human rights of people with disability, and helps to prevent harm.
Business Analysis Tool
This tool outlines three aspects of person-centred business design principles, and covers the essential systems that all organisations should have, including high-level NDIS essentials.
Providers can use one or all of the self-assessment checklists, covering seven domains: strategy; corporate governance; customers and market focus; quality and safeguarding; financial sustainability; people and capability; and information and knowledge management.
The tool also includes a range of ideas for innovation, financial sustainability and ongoing improvement.
People with Disability and Support Decision-Making
This guide provides information about the rights of all people with disability to make their own decisions.
It suggests practical steps for providing support to people with disability to make their own decisions, and when an alternative decision-maker is needed. It also includes specific information about NDIS decisions.
The guide includes links to a range of resources, including checklists for providers, board members, managers and workers.
