New Social Homes For More Renters In Melbourne's North

VIC Premier

More Victorians will have a place to call home thanks to the Allan Labor Government's social housing investment in Melbourne's north.

Minister for Housing Harriet Shing yesterday turned the first sod at the site of a new $4 million social housing development in Epping. The homes are being delivered as a partnership between VincentCare Community Housing and Homes Victoria through the Labor Government's landmark $5.3 billion Big Housing Build.

The nine two and three-bedroom homes will provide safety and security for up to 23 people on the Victorian Housing Register.

The homes will be managed by VincentCare Community Housing, part of St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria, which is this week celebrating 170 years of providing support and assistance to Victorians in need.

The new homes are located within Development Victoria's Aurora Housing development, providing easy access to the town centre, the Aurora Village shopping centre, schools and childcare centres, parks and playgrounds, as well as walking and cycling paths.

The Labor Government is delivering more homes, for more Victorians, in every corner of the state. We are pulling every lever within our control to house more people in the areas where they want to live.

Once complete, the Big Housing Build will deliver more than 12,000 new homes across Victoria, with an additional $1 billion for at least 1300 new social and affordable homes across rural and regional Victoria.

In the City of Whittlesea more than $130 million has been invested to create 319 new social and affordable homes.

Across Victoria the Labor Government is providing a further 4,000 new, energy efficient social housing homes through programs like the Public Housing Renewal Program, and through the Commonwealth Government's Social Housing Accelerator Fund, which will help us build another 769 homes.

As stated by Minister for Housing Harriet Shing

"Every day around Victoria we are building light-filled, accessible, secure, and energy efficient homes for singles, couples, and families as part of the single biggest investment in social and affordable housing by any state or territory government."

"Once complete, the brand new homes at this development will enable more people on the Victorian Housing Register to connect to schools, public transport, healthcare, and services in this growing part of the city."

As stated by Minister for Development Victoria Colin Brooks

"We're working every day to push more homes through the planning process and get shovels into the ground right across the state."

As stated by the Member for the Northern Metropolitan Region Sheena Watt

"Building new social housing is key to supporting our growing suburbs in the Northern Metropolitan region."
