The Hills Shire Council is celebrating the first major construction milestone at a soon-to-be-built sports complex in North Kellyville.
Machinery is now on-site at Stringer Road Reserve and carrying out bulk earthworks that will soon transform the vacant space into a thriving place where residents and visitors can play team sports, enjoy recreational activities, socialise and stay active and healthy.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi said he was proud to see work commencing on the new complex, which is anticipated to open in the second half of 2024 (weather permitting).
"This facility will not only cater to the growing community but will also support grassroots sports and promote active and healthy lifestyles," Mayor Gangemi said.
"It will benefit local residents and teams in the short term and have long-lasting effects on the community for years to come. It also has the potential to produce future champions, including Olympians and Paralympians.
"I look forward to seeing this facility taking shape over the next few months and then being utilised when it opens to the community in 2024," he said.
Once complete, the sports complex will include four multi-purpose natural turf fields that can be reconfigured into two ovals. There's also an amenities building with accessible toilets, change rooms, a kiosk, a referee room and storage.
The facility has also been designed to include two full-sized basketball courts, a car park, spectator seating, pathways, and a children's playground with a picnic shelter.
