New state-of-the-art indoor cricket training centre for Jubilee Park

Jubilee Park will soon be home to a new five-lane, state-of-the-art, multi-sport indoor cricket training centre.

Minister for Community Sport the Hon. Ros Spence visited the site on Tuesday to announce $2.9million towards the $4.1 million facility.

The indoor cricket training centre will commence stage 2 of Jubilee Park's enhancement plan and stand next to the new RO Spencer Pavilion.

"It is great to be able to celebrate this next stage of the Jubilee Park redevelopment," Cr Symon said.

"It is very exciting to see this accessible five-lane indoor cricket training facility which will also enable multi-sport and recreational opportunities come to life," he said.

The new facility will cater for both male and female cricketers in a bid to expand female participation in the sport.

Council will contribute $1.2 million to the indoor cricket training centre project, which will ensure that the new facility is first-class and a great addition for sport in Maroondah; solidifying its place as a regional cricket hub in the East.

"It is great to work in partnership with the Victorian Government to provide important sporting infrastructure for the Maroondah community," Cr Symon said.

The project is set to begin shortly, with a completion timeframe of the end of 2022.

President of the Ringwood Cricket Club, Stuart Baum, was ecstatic about the funding.

"It is incredibly exciting to see Ringwood being one of four cricket hubs in the Metropolitan area," he said.

"This is a fantastic recognition of the importance of cricket in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and the growth of male and female cricket in the area.

"The indoor facility will extend the months of the year in which participation in cricket can occur and will offer a wide range of coaching and training opportunities from elite to novice," Stuart said.
