Today, Council endorsed the Cairns Social Resilience Strategy 2026–2030, establishing a framework to strengthen social resilience across the region and support communities to better respond to and recover from future challenges.
Informed by research and community sector consultation, the strategy recognises the region's strong social assets while identifying opportunities to address key social challenges in our community.
The strategy focuses on four key areas:
- Local housing solutions
- Engaged and empowered young people
- Inclusive and welcoming communities
- Safe and respectful relationships
The four-year roadmap will guide Council's work with community organisations, service providers and government agencies to build a more connected, inclusive and resilient Cairns.
It also identifies opportunities to strengthen outcomes through advocacy, partnerships, service delivery, community engagement and funding initiatives.
An annual report card will track progress and identify future opportunities across the four focus areas.
