New support services hub for Wodonga veterans and families

The latest addition to the Veterans’ and Families’ Hubs network has officially opened today in Wodonga, providing tailored services and support to the veteran community in regional Victoria.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Matt Keogh acknowledged the importance of the hubs in welcoming and supporting the whole veteran family.

“I am pleased to officially open the latest Veterans’ and Families’ Hub in Wodonga, the Tim Fischer AC Veterans and Families Hub, named after former Deputy Prime Minister and Vietnam veteran, the late Tim Fischer AC,” Minister Keogh said.

“Lead organisation for the Hub, RSL Victoria, has been working in partnership with other ex-service and community organisations and the Victorian Government to develop the hub.

“We want to ensure the services the hubs provide are targeted at what the community actually needs rather than taking a cookie cutter approach, the organisations providing services via the hub will support individual veterans as well as their families.”

“The local veteran community can access tailored services including those that support transition to civilian life, advocacy services and social connectedness, physical and mental health services, and a range of community activities, including volunteer and sporting opportunities,”

“The Federal Budget includes $46.7 million to deliver 10 Veterans’ and Families’ hubs across the country to improve access to the specific services and supports that local veteran communities need and frankly deserve.”

“To ensure these hubs can best support veterans and families, the Australian Government is now funding backbone support to enable collaboration and service improvement across the hub network.”

“The Australian Government is committed to providing practical services and supports to defence personnel, veterans and families,” Minister Keogh said.
