The Crisafulli Government has delivered a world-class training facility at TAFE Queensland Alexandra Hills to strengthen Queensland's pipeline of skilled electrical workers.
The Electrotechnology Centre provides cutting-edge learning spaces for electrical apprentices and students doing pre-apprenticeship training while breathing new life into the campus by replacing old and empty buildings with modern infrastructure designed to meet industry needs.
The new facility will also deliver the highly specialised capstone test which sees electrical apprentices gain their qualification, helping to ease a bottleneck of apprentices waiting to get signed off.
With demand for training expected to continue growing, the Electrotechnology Centre is also expected to provide out of hours courses to allow apprentices to fit learning around work.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering more jobs and better services through a stronger economy, after a decade of decline under Labor.
The $5 million centre is the latest initiative by the Crisafulli Government to rebuild Queensland's skilled workforce after Labor created a construction worker shortage with a predicted peak shortfall of 50,000 workers.
That peak shortfall has already eased significantly under the Crisafulli Government, with a record number of apprenticeship completions delivered in 2025-26 and a 15.7% surge in the number of Queenslanders starting electrical apprenticeships.
Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said the new facility would train the skilled electricians Queensland needs.
"Labor's legacy was a dire construction worker shortage which put major projects and budgets at risk, but the Crisafulli Government is delivering the skills training and job opportunities for every Queenslander who wants to help build the future of the State," Minister Bates said.
"Queensland is entering a construction super-cycle thanks to the Crisafulli Government's generational infrastructure pipeline and the opportunities for our home-grown electrical workers will be incredible.
"This facility has capacity to host 84 electrical students on any given day and will help support the hundreds of apprentices training at TAFE Queensland's Alexandra Hills campus.
"The Crisafulli Government is delivering the biggest expansion to TAFE's physical footprint in decades, and this facility will complement the four Centres of Excellent we're delivering around the State."
Member for Capalaba Russell Field MP said the new centre would provide a major boost to electrical apprentices training in the Redlands region.
"This is fantastic news because we're going to have hundreds more local apprentices who are able to train and get signed off without having to travel to get their qualifications," Mr Field said.
Member for Oodgeroo Amanda Stoker MP said the Electrotechnology Centre was another jewel in the crown of TAFE's Alexandra Hills campus.
"This was already a tremendous institution for delivering the skills and training Queenslanders need, and this new facility is going to take it to the next level," Ms Stoker said.
Member for Redlands Rebecca Young MP said the centre would help support the growing population on the Redlands Coast.
"Our region is absolutely booming, and having more electrical workers training here and getting to work on building sites around the Redlands Coast is going to be phenomenal," Ms Young said.
TAFE Queensland Chief Executive Officer Tim Rawlings said the new Electrotechnology Centre would help meet Queensland's growing demand for skilled electricians by supporting more apprentices to train, progress and complete their qualifications.
"The new Electrotechnology Centre expands our capacity to train the next generation of electricians in an environment that reflects current industry-standard practice, while giving students access to contemporary equipment, hands-on learning and experienced educators," he said.
